I note with gentle horror that both the reviewer at that link and the post over on LJ seem to think that "Aunt" means "parent's sister" in this context, which (a) is woefully ignorant of standard practice across many cultures (including most of Europe, ffs) of using "aunt" and "uncle" as honorifics for "respected adult I interact with frequently"; and (b) clearly makes no sense in the context of Mai's family as a whole.
But! Yes. Commentary aside, I actually enjoyed this (it even manages a Bechdel pass! I wish I weren't surprised by this), and I think it gave us a lot to chew over. So!
