Oh, author, this is wonderful! Oh, Zuko; oh, Iroh. It's such a lovely look at Zuko post-series, at the kind of leader he's trying to be, the kind of person he is. And he still goes to Iroh for advice (even if he won't admit it, heh), and Iroh's gift to him at the end -- better company than the previous generations of his family indeed, oh, oh, Zuko. *flails*
And there's ART! And it's GREAT! ♥ You totally nailed the style of the Fire Lord portraits; I didn't look at it closely before reading the story, and then going back to see what Zuko was talking about, it really jumped out at me -- all the imagery for the four nations, and it's so perfect that I CAN'T EVEN. Oh yes, he is a different kind of Fire Lord, and it's a new world, and future generations will have that portrait to look at and know that the Fire Lords can be something other than Sozin was, than Ozai was.
This fic and the art just encapsulates so many of the things that I loved about the series: the theme of cooperation and friendship across borders and boundaries; Zuko's (self-made) redemption arc and the kind of person he turned out to be. And of course, Iroh is still just as awesome as always, and his affection for his stubborn nephew shows through in everything he does. IT IS SO PERFECT, and thank you so much! This really made my day. ♥ ♥ ♥
