Mako strikes me as a wound-up-too-tight kinda guy most of the time anyway. It was jerk behavior and I don't forgive him for it at all, but I bet some of that was already feeling snappish about having gotten evicted from a hard-earned home and unexpectedly becoming his girlfriend's charity case. He's a little insecure about the money situation and ready to lash out about the least little thing.
