Peacekeepers discussion

More thoughts in my journal, but wow.

I've heard that the Tumblr portion of fandom kind of exploded over Mako & Korra's breakup and how that was handled. I enjoyed it, although I'm not wholly comfortable with how Mako is "right" (in not instantly blaming the Northern Water Tribe for the attack on the cultural center) and Korra seems over-the-top irrational. He asked her earlier in the episode why she's so obsessed with people being on "sides" and I get that this ties into the theme of Korra learning how to maintain balance. I guess I just wish that Asami or Bolin were playing her foil in this. They're feeling more like prop pieces than an actual part of the storyline at this point.

One thing I did really like about this episode was how it kind of brought the focus back to Korra. When the previews first came out, and for the first few episodes, I was afraid it was all going to be about Unalaq vs. Tonraq. It's nice having the conflict moved away from them.

Did anyone understand the point of Meelo's storyline in this episode? I enjoyed it, but unlike other episodes, I don't see how it tied into the theme. But oh man, Meelo was adorable (and I'm not usually his biggest fan. He's a vehicle for humor that is not at all my style). Being the alpha lemur is lonely.

That cliffhanger was evil. I hope it's the vehicle for bringing the Aang family and Korra storylines back together.

I'm a little disengaged from the Water Tribe storyline so I'm enjoying the Airbender Family Hour as its own self-contained story.

I've seen some interps of Meelo's storyline as being foreshadowing for Tenzin and Korra's own storyline? (Here is one, here is another!)
