Oooh!

I left the last question unanswered, as I have no strong feelings either way.

I love initial-anonymity. It gives one a chance to react to the piece instead of the name attached being any kind of consideration.

I also think it's fun to play the guessing game of who wrote what. And after reveals you can read what your friends wrote, so it's like you get to read two different sets of stories!

Never written AtLA fic before, but I'm certainly willing to try...

What do we mean by 'early February'? Posting begins then or signups/assignments are? I suppose either way, we are well clear of the late-December holiday rush

If it's fic only my vote changes to a "probably not", both otherwise this sounds like fun!

Oh, and I said no to anonymity but I don't feel very strongly about it, I just find keeping anonymous a little difficult :)

I didn't vote on question 3 because I don't care.

Re: question 2, what about the possibility of art/fic matchups, where there are two rounds, one for fic and one for art to go with the fic, or something like that. Uh, I don't really have a clue about logistics, but I think it could be fun to encourage joint efforts.

Oh, that would be marvelous! And I really like the idea of doing it for Lunar New Year; as well as being appropriate, it fits very tidily between the rush of Christmas ficathons and all the ones that gear up in the spring. :>

Hate anonymity! KILL IT WITH FIRE!

Ahem.

That said, I would still likely participate, depending on the due dates and the uh, structure of the way requests are made.

Oh, you know, the typical make four requests, the writer only has to write one of them, what can't you write etc. I also like the "1 request must be gen rule," because when you've got a lot of different pairings to match, it can make things easier both for mods and for people who might for whatever reason suddenly discover they can't write a pairing they thought they were okay with.

Having run a couple of small exchange ficathons that weren't dedicated to a single pairing, I found it helpful to have that gen slot available to match people on if it was necessary.

My spirit is willing, though my writing of late is weak. But . . . A:TLA! I adore anonymous gift exchanges (and I do think that Yuletide has it right with a week between posting and reveals - it's a perfect length of time). Also I am really excited at the prospect of a multi-form gift exchange, like, I make you a vid, you make eruthros a fic, she makes me a desktop . . . how great would that be! Perhaps if some people really objected to one medium or another (ie, doesn't want to receive vids but would be happy with anything else) you could set that up as an option in the matching? And of course set up a reciprocal "what kinds of things are you willing to make" question.

I'm really excited for the eventual potential outcome of this!
Edited (I set it up so that I didn't receive a gift in that example!) 2010-11-12 02:22 (UTC)

Maybe we should break art down into more specifics, too? Fic, fanart, vids, icons, etc?

I'll only be able to participate if art is included, but I think this is a pretty fabulous idea either way. :)

This sounds so awesome. I would definitely (barring unforeseen events) participate if it included vids(with a short minimum length). Otherwise I wouldn't be able to. Also, not something I would do myself, but it would be great to open it up to other arts like crafty stuff, although delivering them to the recipient would be tricky to arrange with anonymity--probably would need mods or volunteers to give their addresses and be go-betweens? Anyway, basically, the idea of including offline art is worth a thought, IMO. It might not be workable but I'm very excited lately about expanding the idea of fanwork beyond "fic and pictures(some of them moving)." :)

IN SHORT: A+++ idea \o/
eruthros: Toph from Avatar: TLA preparing for battle (Avatar - toph getting ready)

[personal profile] eruthros 2010-11-12 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I have been thinking about this too! A lot of crafty stuff might be deliverable online as well as off -- like, mail someone a knitted Toph, and then post the pattern or pictures for other people to see.

I chose "maybe" because of possible length requirements - I'm not the most prolific writer ever. But yeah, I'm definitely interested.

Not a prolific fandom creator, but I would definitely try for this one, time willing!

Didn't answer the anonymity question because it doesn't bother me.
fulselden: Toph grinning. (Sweeeet.)

[personal profile] fulselden 2010-11-12 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
This sounds great! Initial anonymity would be fine by me, and it seems as though it would be a pity if art/vids were excluded.

[personal profile] ex_pippin880 2010-11-13 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
I would be up for it as long as I didn't have to do/get fanfic. Fanart&craft om nom nom. :3

The "something else I will mention in comments" is that I am very much pro-multiple types of fanworks being included, and I wasn't sure if "fanart" meant things like graphics/icons, so am just mentioning that here.
