Asami is the greatest, y/y? And I'm super excited to see those upcoming Air Temple Island shenanigans with everybody living together.

Mako is being kind of a jerk, though. Boo.

I'm pretty sure Chief Bei Fong was channeling Dirty Harry in that last scene there. I'm afraid laughed a little; The line itself was rather cheesy, and I really don't understand the logic behind her decision. Yes! Let me resign from a position that allows me to obtain men and airships at a moment's notice, just because a few officers had their bending taken away (and may or may not have been quietly killed). No officers have ever died on me before! But who am I to judge? (she said with a slightly hysterical laugh). All I want is an icon of my beloved Chief. *quietly crosses her fingers and folds her hands*

YYYYYYYY! Asami, you're great. *chinhands*

Mako seriously needs to cool it down.

I got the impression from her conversation with Tenzin that she was going to get ousted from her position by Tarloc whether she likes it or not.

Maybe, but I don't really understand why. Obviously she'll be under continued scrutiny, but surely "we uncovered one of the Equalists' main suppliers of weapons and have him in custody" makes up for a lot of getting fooled by a fake snitch and ambushed? Having her officers kidnapped is embarassing, but Tarloc can't exactly object if she makes it a police priority to get them back, and the public is way less likely to care about that than about the definite and obvious advantages of having Sato in custody.

Though it is pretty funny to have Lin go off the rails in ep 7 after all the meta here about how much more establishment LoK is than TLA. (Which is still true, but less so if Lin actually goes for it.)

Mako strikes me as a wound-up-too-tight kinda guy most of the time anyway. It was jerk behavior and I don't forgive him for it at all, but I bet some of that was already feeling snappish about having gotten evicted from a hard-earned home and unexpectedly becoming his girlfriend's charity case. He's a little insecure about the money situation and ready to lash out about the least little thing.

Lin's reputation is already tarnished from the bending arena fiasco and the highly-publicized empty-handed inspection of Future Industries--I bet she's already on restriction for the next foreseeable while. Combine that with what we've seen of the ubiquity of Satomobiles and how well they're integrated into Republic City, and I wouldn't be surprised if she has legitimate reason to fear the other members of the council might be a little too willing to put an alleged Equalist sympathizer's word over hers.

As for the possibility of her breakin'-the-law storyline: doubt it'll go all the way through. She might get close, but this whole arc with her and Tenzin getting over old hurts is probably going to wind up in some mutual giving of 'advice that needs to be said even if we gotta spit it out through our teeth'. Tenzin, who was only on the Council with the greatest reluctance (he doesn't seem to particularly like being there) telling Lin to stick with the establishment, and Lin, who's forever irritated with Tenzin's peace-and-patience stance, telling him to be true to himself and not pull anything rash.

Fair enough, though Sato's giant posters of Amon (least subtle secret hideout!) and the multiple witnesses to his attack do make his case a bit hard to make. It'll work for me if the writers turn this plot point into a character thing because I can believe Lin doesn't do politics and spin very well, but I think someone who does would be able to overshadow the failed inspection with the fruitful raid, and use Asami's support of the benders to reassure people that Sato's tech won't go anywhere.

A good point, and that definitely works better for me character-wise than rebelliousness out of nowhere.

LIN BEI FOOOOOOOOONG. ♥ ♥ ♥

I like the way Asami's storyline worked out and the fact that she's still part of the main group of kids. However, the reveal on her father left me going "... wait, what?" It's not that the "upstanding citizen in public, member of shady hate group in private" characterization isn't perfectly believable, and it's not even that I can't imagine Asami being unaware of her father's true beliefs. But when you put the two together and then combine them with what we've seen him doing in the show -- being perfectly friendly to his daughter's bender friends and boyfriend, sponsoring the tournament team, going to see their matches ... it just doesn't fit with a prejudice and hatred so deep-seated and virulent that he was actively helping the Equalists wipe them out. I think it would be less weird to me if he'd indicated that he was in it for the money or something like that, but from what he said about his wife's death, he was truly committed to the cause. I'm baffled that, given how he feels about benders, he never said a word about his daughter dating one or inviting them to live in his house or anything like that. I'd have expected that at the very least, he would have filled his daughter's ears with anti-bender talk around the house -- warning her that benders were dangerous and so forth. Yet nothing in Asami's behavior indicates that she's been the recipient of that sort of thing.

Aside from that, though, I really enjoyed the episode and can't WAIT for next episode with everyone living together on Air Temple Island. :D

There was one slight bit of foreshadowing I can recall off-hand, but that may only be foreshadowing-in-retrospect-- Sato was not pleased with Asami inviting the brothers to live with her.

Oh, also, his sponsorship of the Fire Ferrerts. That action made a lot more sense post-reveal. (And was, honestly, something that had me suspecting him (and Asami, tbh) earlier on). Korra needed to be in that tournament in order to increase the impact of Amon's actions. The police couldn't stop him. The Avatar couldn't stop him. Etc.
