Korra Discussion Post: Skeletons in the Closet & Endgame

The two-part season finale of Korra airs today! Spoilery discussion below.

Although we've reached the end of the season, do be mindful that not everyone will be able to catch up at the same time and continue to mark for spoilers when posting to the comm. Thank you! <3

I'm planning on watching the last few minutes over again because our TiVo didn't record the whole thing (long season finale was long). In the meantime, have a few comments.

1) For those of you who said that Amon and Yakone were related: Well done. Also, I was impressed with Amon when I thought he actually burned his face to sell his story. Alas.
2) Holy shit, Tarrlok! Yeah, that's all I was able to say during his final moments.
3) Hurray for the Avatar state and undoing whatever Amon did!
4) I am SO glad I decided from the get go not to ship people and I really wish there wasn't so much romance drama in the show. *sigh*

Yes, I was disappointed when it was just makeup. Generally I am disappointed with how the Equalist storyline was presented. If it had been better, I wouldn't mind Amon being a liar. But either way he should have had an actual burned face.

On the one hand, it was shocking to see Tarrlok blow up their boat. On the other, Noatak is skilled enough that the writers could retcon it if they get a third season, or more. Though I really hope they won't.

I knew I wasn't going to ship canon by the second episode, so I am safe with Korrasami.

I was surprised she got her bending back so quickly. I suppose they couldn't have ended the series that way and couldn't go back to change it. But it was beautiful of course.

Korrasami FTW.

It's really obnoxious how they didn't leave room to ship everything. Why not? Just have Asami and Mako drift apart and everybody be friends with the occasional spark for a while.

This is the first episode I watched on TV instead of later on the 'net, and I really could not restrain myself from booing all the Korra/Mako bits. I hate it that much!!! I am usually indifferent to this sort of thing! Too much, too soon, too badly done! Grah!

That's a great way of putting it, 'friends with the occasional spark'. Exactly, that would have been perfect.

I really, really wanted more Korra-and-Asami scenes, to show that yeah, they actually are friends. That was one of the thing that got ATLA so much praise, there were very well written lady-friendships even when they were all very different people. Dropping that much-praised element in a female-fronted edition of Avatar makes no sense at all. Not to mention, if you insist on doing bullshit love triangles, having everyone genuinely, strongly like each other would make it that much more awkward and painful for everyone and increase the output of tasty, tasty polyshipping fic.

I was also hoping for more Mako-and-Bolin brotherly scenes--they've had a really tough life, they're each others' only constant, they have to be pretty tight. Mako barely expresses any affection for Bolin at all, he's mostly just mad at him or running to rescue him. It sucks.
