The Real White Lotus Society

Hi everyone! I hope this post is okay for this comm?

While looking stuff up about the Egyptian revolution (also called the Lotus Revolution), I stumbled across a reference to the real White Lotus Society in Chinese history. Apparently it was a secret, somewhat nationalist, society informed by a specific denomination of Buddhism, and responsible for a number of rebellions against state oppression since the 13th century, CE.

Crocheted squares with the nation symbols. kimby77 did the original charts, which I then sized down by a factor of 3 and tweaked to look better. They were worked with worsted cotton yarn, so can be used as facecloths/hand towels/dish towels or whatever. They are also a pain and a half to photo, as the texture really needs the right lighting to show up.
